Frequently asked questions
What is a Windows virtual server?
A virtual server, a VPS (virtual private server) or cloud server, is a term given to server virtualization technology by the web hosting industry. Basically, a large computer, called a hypervisor, is virtually "sliced" into "areas" of RAM, CPU and disk, and each of these "areas" can contain an individual operating system. Each of these "areas" is normally referred to as a virtual machine or virtual server.
Which version of Windows do you recommend?
We recommend Windows 2016 or 2019 for your Windows Server needs. Microsoft invested billions of dollars in the development of Windows Server, its kernel and its reliable filesystem. They are quite stable.
What about an easier way to use Windows? I don't understand the Server editions.
In that case, we recommend Windows 10. It is quite an incredible achievement over previous generations of Windows desktop editions, such as Windows 7. We do not recommend any older Windows edition.
How am I billed for my virtual servers?
All servers are billed hourly. This means you can deploy for just a day to test a new version of your application and then just delete them. As the hours go by, we deduct the hourly price of your virtual servers from funds in your account. When your funds are close to running out, we will automatically refill your account by charging your credit card for an amount equal to the next 30 days of service. You may also make a payment using PayPal.
How much RAM, disk space and CPU do you recommend?
Unlike the low RAM requirements of Linux, Windows does require a higher amount of RAM and thus, we recommend at least 4 GBs of RAM. However, if you will be using a web browser inside your Windows virtual server, we recommend at least 8GBs of RAM and four CPUs, as web browsers do use a considerable amount of RAM. As for disk space, at least 45 GBs or more, as Windows itself can utilize anywhere from 20 to 30 GBs of disk space.
